A backflow prevention device is necessary to prevent contaminated or polluted water or substances from entering the potable water system.

Backflow prevention assemblies must be tested and certified annually.  Mechanical backflow devices (such as reduced pressure zone assemblies) contain seals, springs, and other moving parts that are subject to wear and fouling.  A yearly inspection by a licensed backflow assembly tester will verify the device is working properly and helps protect public health.
